MEMBERS OF THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION


The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter specifies that the City Planning Commission be composed of nine members. In addition to the Managing Director, Director of Finance, and Director of Commerce, who serve as ex-officio members, the Mayor appoints six individuals to serve on the Commission. Of the six appointed members, one must be an architect, one must be a city planner, one must be a traffic engineer, one must be a real estate attorney, and two must be community representatives.

The members of the City Planning Commission are:
  • Andrew Altman, Chairman
    Director of Commerce and Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, City of Philadelphia.

  • Camille Cates Barnett
    Managing Director, City of Philadelphia.

  • Rob Dubow
    Director of Finance, City of Philadelphia.

  • Patrick J. Eiding
    President, Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO

    A leader in the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania labor movement, Mr. Eiding is active in many civic, , and government affairs.

    Prior to being elected President of the Philadelphia Council of the AFL-CIO in January 2002, Mr. Eiding served for 25 years as Business Manager and Financial Secretary of the Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 14 covering Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. He began working with the Insulators in 1958 before being drafted into the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge, he was admitted to the Union in 1963 as an apprentice. After becoming a journeyman, he continued working in the field until his election as Business Manager.

    Mr. Eiding has risen through the ranks of leadership throughout his career. His union leadership roles include serving as past president of the Asbestos Workers Middle Atlantic States Conference and past president of the Mechanical Trades Council in Philadelphia and New Jersey. He currently serves as Vice President of the Pennsylvania Building Trades Council, Secretary/Treasurer of the Philadelphia Building Trades Council, and as a member of the Executive Council of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.

    Mr. Eiding represents the interests of working families by serving as an active member of numerous boards and commissions. He is the co - chairman of PALM (Philadelphia Area Labor Management) and sits on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Comey Labor Institute of St. Joseph's University, and the nominating panel for Community College of Philadelphia. He is Treasurer for the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board and serves as a Commissioner for the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) and the Philadelphia Planning Commission.

    Mr. Eiding is very involved in this community and has invested many hours to civic and community endeavors. His favorite charity event is the Asbestos Workers Mesothelioma Fund. In 1992, he spearheaded the negotiations to inaugurate the Fund as part of the Insulators Collective Bargaining Agreements to aid in the research of this most dreadful disease. In 1995, he chaired the first Annual Mesothelioma Golf tournament, which has raised more than $1 million for the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Since being elected President of the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO, he has made the voice of labor heard throughout this region. He has co- hosted the weekly "Labor to Neighbor" radio show which strives to educate listeners about current working family issues and to serve as a voice for those who need it most in our community.

  • Alan Greenberger, AIA, Vice-Chairman
    Principal at MGA Partners

    Mr. Greenberger directs many of his firm's architectural, urban design, and planning projects, and is the Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman of the Design Advocacy Group. He is a Visiting Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania Department of City Planning and an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the Drexel University Department of Architecture.

  • Bernard Lee, Esq.
    Partner at Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen LLP.

    Mr. Lee's areas of concentration are real estate, corporate, and municipal law, including real estate development and financing, mixed-use and mixed-finance projects, and public-private projects. Mr. Lee is a member of the Board of the Metropolitan YMCA and the Board of SCAN.

  • Natalia Olson de Savyckyj
    Transportation Planner and Project Manager at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.

    At the DVRPC, Ms. Olson de Savyckyj manages multimodal transportation planning projects and is involved with the DVRPC Sustainable planning Steering Committee. Formerly, she worked internationally for the State Department.

  • Joe Syrnick
    President and CEO of the Schuylkill River Deveopment Corporation.

    Prior to his current position at SRDC, Mr. Syrnick worked for the City of Philadelphia as Chief Engineer and Surveyor, with responsibilities for highway and bridge design, bridge construction, transportation planning, and surveying. He is a Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor.

  • Nilda Iris Ruiz
    President and CEO of Asociación de Puertorriqueños en Marcha, Inc.

    Prior to her position at APM, Ms. Ruiz served as the Senior Community Development Director for the East Coast at National Council of La Raza. She has worked in the community development field for the past twelve years, and has done extensive work in predominantly Latino communities.
